Crisis Prevention & BSKI – A Look at Critical Infrastructure, Resilience and Hybrid Threats

Why do we often still discuss critical infrastructure, resilience and modern security architecture separately from cybersecurity, physical security and crisis management – even though hybrid threats have long since dissolved exactly these boundaries? In the new episode of our podcast, Holger Berens, Chairman of the Federal Association for the Protection of Critical Infrastructure (BSKI), speaks together with André Luhmer about critical infrastructure, hybrid threats and the question of how Germany can become more resilient in the future.

André Luhmer is editor-in-chief of Crisis Prevention — the specialist magazine of the CPM publishing house for public authorities and organizations with security responsibilities. The magazine is published four times a year and covers current developments around civil protection, critical infrastructure, security strategies, crisis management and state security structures. At the same time, André Luhmer is himself a police officer and paramedic and has worked for many years as a lecturer in the field of emergency medicine. In this episode it is also officially announced that Crisis Prevention will in future serve as the official communication organ of the BSKI.

The aim of the collaboration is to bring topics around critical infrastructure, civil protection, resilience and hybrid threats more strongly into the public eye in the future, and to network different security disciplines more closely with one another. The focus is on the concrete challenges of our time: DDoS attacks on critical infrastructure, acts of sabotage, counter-drone defense, hybrid warfare, federal responsibilities and the question of how well Germany is prepared for complex crisis and threat situations. Together we discuss why modern security can no longer be thought of in isolation today – and why long-term strategies, resilient structures and societal awareness are becoming ever more important.

Key questions of this episode: Why does Germany lag behind on resilience and total defense? What role will critical infrastructure, civil protection and hybrid threats play in the future? And why does modern security today require more collaboration between politics, public authorities, business and society? We also talk about future thematic priorities of Crisis Prevention together with the BSKI — including major-incident situations, total defense, crisis preparedness as well as critical infrastructure and counter-drone defense.
